What is Wimax?
- · Wimax is not a brand specific to any one company, it is a new wireless broadband technology which operates similar to normal wireless broadband but at higher speeds, over greater distances and for a greater number of users.
- · WiMax can give coverage over a far greater distance than existing technologies. The advantage of WiMax for areas such as the North West is that it gives non-line of sight broadband access where previously you would have had to be able to see the mast. This means we can provide coverage to more customers than ever before.
What is Fastcom doing about Wimax?
- · Fastcom has the largest Wimax coverage in the Northwest and we will be expanding coverage with the new license ComReg (the communications regulator) recently awarded us.
- · Fastcom already has Wimax receivers installed in Sligo and Donegal and this technology allows Fastcom to offer customers broadband speeds of up to 10mbps.
- Fastcom Broadband has invested over €2million in their network to date and has over 2,500 customers in Sligo, Leitrim Donegal. Fastcom Broadband employs 12 staff at their offices in Sligo
